Thank god, a new thread that actually has a point...
bear in mind the song you cover, needs to be simple enough for the others, judging from what we have seen, itll probably have to be something originally by keane.
A metallica track would be good though.

The poet cactus seems to have the right idea that all members need to be able to play the songs as some songs will be too hard to play for some people.
bands like pink floyd will be too difficult to do. stuff like blink 182 are a definate no - too simple and basically not what the audience will want.
old classics like deep purple and metallica are what pub punters want.
Punking up other songs is good. eg) a punk version of my way by frank sinartra would be amusing.

ross's voice isnt high enough to paly weezer and his voice is also too good to stoop down to that level.

Ross's voice is too good? ahemm...
The song you cover needs to have a good balance, and also needs to be one that takes some musical talent, jimmy eat world maybe, a track called "middle"? has a guitar solo, punks love it, must go now, i need a piddle.

well i think your safest bet would be to play some traditional rock like queen, ac/dc, possibly motorhead- ace of spades, beetles, stuf like that as your playing in a pub so lotsa people will be getting drunk and wanting to hear some classics- think of the demografic your aiming at. xCoDx
